The First California State Fair Cannabis Awards 2022

California State Fair is the first-ever, state-sanctioned cannabis competition and awards.

With over 300 submissions showcasing some of California’s finest cannabis and cultivators, the inaugural CA State Fair Cannabis Award winners in Silver, Gold, and the esteemed Golden Bear trophies, symbolizing the “Best of California,” were unveiled in May 2022.

In the first-ever edition of this science-based competition, the focus remained on evaluating flower exclusively across three divisions: Indoor, Outdoor, and Mixed Light. Each division encompassed ten categories: three primary cannabinoids, six terpenes, and one co-dominant terpene profile.

Every submission underwent rigorous testing to uphold the highest standards, generating individual chemometric lab reports to authenticate results by division and category. Medals were granted based on the overall expression of terpenes or cannabinoids in each of the ten categories. Terpene winners underwent further evaluation by category, factoring in the ratio of each terpene against the overall terpene concentration in each submission, ensuring accurate classification reflective of each flower’s unique composition.
