CA State Fair Cannabis Awards 2023

The 2nd edition of the California State Fair Cannabis Awards featured the “California Cannabis Exhibit,” a curated showcase celebrating California’s cannabis industry. The exhibit was held indoors on July 14th – 30th, 2023 at Expo Center Building 6 and highlighted the history, craft, and story of California cannabis.

This year, this science-based cannabis competition again focused solely on evaluating flower, spanning three divisions: Indoor, Outdoor, and Mixed Light. Each division encompassed eleven categories, including three primary cannabinoids, six terpenes, one co-dominant terpene profile, and total terpene content.

Every submission underwent rigorous lab testing adhering to the highest standards, resulting in a chemometric report validating division and category results. Medals were granted based on terpene or cannabinoid abundance within each of the eleven categories. Terpene winners underwent further assessment by category, considering the ratio of each terpene against the overall terpene concentration in each submission. This meticulous process ensured accurate classification, preserving the authenticity of each flower’s distinct composition.

Golden Bear trophies, also recognized as “Best of California” trophies in accordance with CA State Fair tradition, were bestowed upon the top Gold Medallists from each category across the entirety of the competition, representing the ultimate all-around winners.
