2002 HighLife Hemp Fair results
5th HighLife Hemp Fair’ which took place on February 5 in the `Melkweg’. This year it was the festival of tycoons of the Dutch cannabis-culture. With as best example the performance of `smuggler’ Nol van Schaik. And the cup-winners of Sensi Seeds.Even the suntanned Menno Buch with his camera-crew came to take a look at midnight at the most important Dutch cannabis-event of the year. He did not come for his program `Sex voor de Buch’, but for a new show, which will deal with extreme subcultures. Buch was just at the right spot. Because the Dutch cannabis-world has developed to a grown subculture. People, who smoke weed, sell weed, rasta’s and German cannabis-journalists. In the `Melkweg’ everyone was mingling. Everyone had a good time when the funky bands Seven Eleven, Puwax and Honky Soul were on stage. The cinema of the `Melkweg’ was filled with visitors who were laughing their brains out with movies of Cheech and Chong. For the house-adepts there were DJ Monica and -an old familiar face of the Highlife festival- Frankie D., the former DJ of Junkie XL. Main act of the night were Postmen, the most promising Dutch band of last year, winners of the Silver Harp and the Heineken Crossover Award. We had to wait for a long time, but Postmen made it worth while. The hiphop-reggae was a perfect choice for a relaxed festival, such as the Highlife festival.
