At the 23th High Times Cannabis Cup, Dale Gieringer received the Freedom Fighter of the Year Award 2010.
Dr. Dale Gieringer received his Ph.D. at Stanford on the topic of DEA drug regulation. He is the author of articles on marijuana and driving safety, drug testing, marijuana health mythology, the economics of marijuana legalization, and DEA “drug enforcement abuse.” He has also sponsored research on the use of water pipes and vaporizers to reduce harmful tars in marijuana smoke.
Dr. Gieringer is the state coordinator of California NORML, and a co-founder of the California Drug Policy Reform Coalition and of Californians for Compassionate Use.
The High Times Freedom Fighters was a marijuana legalization group started in 1987. They injected life into the legalization movement, forged a new generation of activists, and created a number of events around the country. After the group disbanded, High Times continued to name a Freedom Fighter of the Month in every issue of the magazine, as well as an annual Freedom Fighter of the Year, who is always crowned at the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam.
