Elvy MusikkaAt the 5th High Times Cannabis Cup, Elvy Musikka received the Freedom Fighter of the Year Award 1992.
 
Elvy Musikka, born August 10, 1939, is a medical marijuana activist. Musikka is one of four surviving patients enrolled in the federal Compassionate Investigatory New Drug program, and getting marijuana from the government. After surgery failed to prevent her right eye from going blind, she began using cannabis to fight glaucoma in her remaining eye. She was arrested for growing marijuana in March 1988. Her doctor testified at her trial, and she was acquitted. She was approved and began getting legal marijuana in October 1988. Musikka is a tireless advocate for patients’ rights.
 
 
The High Times Freedom Fighters was a marijuana legalization group started in 1987. They injected life into the legalization movement, forged a new generation of activists, and created a number of events around the country.  After the group disbanded, High Times continued to name a Freedom Fighter of the Month in every issue of the magazine, as well as an annual Freedom Fighter of the Year, who is always crowned at the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam.
